Two Ways To Knit

I recently learned that there are two types of knitting: American knitting and European knitting.

American knitting is the way I learned at the library class. (I posted about the library class in a earlier post.)You put a thread of yarn from the ball of yarn around your right finger and you have to through it over the hook. My crochet teacher started to learn this way at a class, but her mother then taught my crochet teacher how to knit the European way.

In European knitting you place a thread of yarn on your left finger and you just have to grab the thread of yarn with your needle. My sister learned from my crochet teacher how to do it this way. I think this way is easier but I have not tried it yet.

If you knit, which way do you knit?

I don't think I do it either way. I probably don't do it the either of the proper ways. I probably do it more of the american way. Have you heard of finger knitting? I learned how to do it the other day.

On Sunday I was teaching one of my friends to crochet, and she said she finger knits, so I searched it on the internet and here is a link to the Youtube vidio that I learned from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3LKAlDz9ig
It is really easy.

Okay, now that I pulled out my knitting and watched myself knit, I knit the European way. :-) That seems to be the way that do it. :-
)One of my mom's friends is going to teach her to knit so I'll see which way she does it.
